Jupiter conjunct Uranus is opening a door to change

Every 14 years there is an astrological event that begins a new cycle of good fortune, opportunity, growth, and change. When the planets Jupiter and Uranus conjunct in the sky, it can feel like a blessing after hard times.

Can’t wait?

It might surprise you to learn that this positive phase has already begun. And will continue until May 2024.

How will Jupiter conjunct Uranus affect me?

To identify where in your life successful change might occur, you need to work out where in your birth chart the conjunction is happening. Both planets are now in the sign of Taurus, Jupiter at 15 degrees and Uranus at 23 degrees. If you know your chart, locate these points (especially the house they are in and any aspects to other planets).

If you’re not savvy with interpreting this, a trained astrologer can help you. You’ll learn what this means in your chart. You’ll explore what doors may be opening for you. And how to work helpfully with these energies.

Potential personal breakthroughs

For Professor Richard Tarnas Ph.D., the Jupiter/Uranus archetype often manifests as joy, excitement, and relief. Archetypal astrologers like me describe its buoyancy with expressions like ‘Thank the Lord!’ Or ‘Woo-hoo!’.

More generally, astrologers appreciate the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction as a favourable time for new beginnings, awakenings, and big change:

  • Opportunities that are exciting and new and meaningful
  • Personal realisations and insights that are liberating
  • Good luck, good fortune, happy outcomes
  • A quantum leap forward, success in making things happen
  • Eureka moments
  • Believing like never before, that what you want is possible
  • Travel or higher studies that give new directions

What does it mean in Taurus?

This Jupiter/Uranus conjunction is happening in the earth sign of Taurus. The mythology of Taurus is rooted in ancient Mother Goddess cultures and connection with the natural world.

We modern peoples give this a twist, and typically live out Taurus energy through the material world, seeking security and comfort through wealth, possessions, and money.

Astrologer Jessica Adams suggests that Jupiter/Uranus energy in Taurus may in fact see opportunities that concern personal wealth and money.

Yet Taurus expresses other themes:

  • Coming home to your body, and making it stronger
  • Developing personal resources other than money
  • Building stability and security
  • Growing in self-esteem or self-respect
  • Becoming strong enough to live by your values
  • Living a simple life, seeking serenity and wholesome comforts
  • Reconnecting with Nature

Growth may come in these ways too. Look to your birth chart for clues. Or reach out. Book an appointment with an experienced astrologer for a reading.

How will Jupiter conjunct Uranus affect the world?

Creativity and innovation in many fields will likely lead to significant breakthroughs.

Thanks to the research of Professor Tarnas in his seminal work, ‘Cosmos and Psyche’, we know how Jupiter/Uranus has triggered change in the past.

  • Scientific breakthroughs e.g., the discovery by Galileo that the Sun is the centre of the solar system.
  • Political rebellions and change e.g., fighting began the American War of Independence, New Zealand becomes the first country in the world to grant women the vote.
  • Cultural breakthroughs in the arts, music, and literature e.g., the publishing of ‘modern’ novels, like Virginia Woolf’s ‘To the Lighthouse,’ the release of Elvis Presley’s first record, Michelangelo paints the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
  • Breakthrough ideas and philosophies e.g., the first published evidence of quantum physics, Freud’s ‘Interpretation of Dreams’ gives birth to modern psychology.
  • Epic adventures that change world views, like Columbus setting sail for the New World.

The shadow potentials

The potential of any archetypal energy exists on a spectrum. So don’t be disappointed to learn that even Jupiter/Uranus has a shadow side.

  • Ego inflation. We could sail high into the sky like a flyaway balloon. Feeling excited, but also ungrounded.
  • Our assessment of risk vs reward is filtered with bias, it feels so good to throw the dice.
  • Rebelling like a teenager, refusing to grow up and accept limitations or responsibilities.
  • Lack of substance. Caught up in possibilities that flatter to deceive. All hype, little true worth.

Jupiter/Uranus can be grounded with good old Saturnian ‘common sense’. How might we embrace the opportunity that Jupiter/Uranus offers while respecting practical limits and responsibilities? While living in the real world?

Jupiter conjunct Uranus

Jupiter and Uranus hold station – its intense!

As I write, both Jupiter and Uranus are stationing in the sky. From our perspective on Earth, they appear stopped in their tracks, about to travel back in the direction they have come (or retrograde).

For astrologers, this means the Jupiter/Uranus energy is very strong right now. Can you feel it? Are you being called toward some positive change? Is a door opening?

It’s part of a process

In my view, there are other astrology patterns in play this year that complicate any potential Jupiter/Uranus breakthrough.

Saturn square Uranus

Until early 2024, we continue to wrestle with the acute tension of Saturn square Uranus. This energy has been a key player in both personal lives and the zeitgeist since 2021, and I’ve written much on it elsewhere.

Negotiating this struggle remains our growth path, suggesting perhaps that the rebirth called for by Jupiter/Uranus needs time to gestate.

Venus and Mercury Retrograde

Both Venus and Mercury are currently in a retrograde cycle. This is an important time to review aspects of our lives. To be guided by self reflection and any matters that go awry.

We may need time to get the facts, to clarify communications, to learn more about who and what we love or value, and to face our need for equal relationships.

Solar Eclipse with Mars square Pluto

The next Solar Eclipse in October combines with Mars squaring Pluto. Libra is the focus of this difficult energy and is fraught with potential for power struggles around fairness. What we learn about ourselves, and our relationships, will be an education.

2024 opens the door for Jupiter conjunct Uranus

As I’ve shown, there are several planetary patterns in the latter half of 2023 that demand patience, self-honesty, inner vigilance, and a maturing ability to negotiate tension.

But on December 30 Jupiter turns direct again, followed on January 27th by Uranus. Early 2024 is when the brakes come off, releasing opportunities for change and growth that Jupiter and Uranus together indicate.

Most fab of all, on April 21st Jupiter joins Uranus at the exact same point in Taurus. At 21 degrees, for those who love the detail. Whatever potential this archetypal energy holds for us may burst forth at this coming together.

I wonder if the challenges of now are purpose-built to guide us toward a new beginning in some area of our lives that is coming soon. I like to think so.
